Let’s make the routes safe…
The Safe Routes to School in Michigan SR2S, www.saferoutesmichigan.org, initiative is an international movement to make it safe, convenient and fun for children to walk and bicycle to school. This grant is 100 percent federally funded and available to school districts that apply.
A Grassroots movement, of parents here on Grosse Ile, has joined together to make Safe Routes to School happen on Grosse Ile.
Today’s Grosse Ile children are driven to nearly all their activities. They do not enjoy the independence and self-assurance we once had. Let us join together as a community to help develop our pedestrian pathways and make the routes safe!!!
Below are some of the startling National and Local statistics that have been part of the driving force for Safe Routes to School, Grosse Ile. Please help us reverse these statistics for our children…
Grosse Ile Middle School, Parke Lane Elementary School, and Meridian Elementary School will improve sidewalks on Parke Lane, Burning Bush Road, Berkshire Drive, Meridian Road, Manchester Boulevard, and Grays Drive, and improve connections from school property to existing sidewalks. The project budget is $496,328.
