The Ford Yacht ClubFord Yacht Club Web Site: http://www.fordyachtclub.comThe Ford Yacht Club is a family orientated organization located at the southwestern tip of Grosse Ile, Michigan. The 174 acres of wooded grounds and Round Island provides a very beautiful and secluded setting as the Detroit River merges into Lake Erie. The complex includes a complete marina facility and a clubhouse with all the necessary amenities. These offerings provide well-rounded boating and social activities for the enjoyment of the members and guests. The Ford Yacht Club is a non-profit corporation, owned and operated by the members. A Board of Directors elected by the Equity members administers all financial and operating functions. For the most part, member volunteer effort is used for small or recurring projects and for equipment and facility maintenance. Each member is required to put forth work hours, based on membership status. THE CLUB GROUNDSThe grounds are semi-wooded and provide a very secluded atmosphere. There are areas provided for picnics, children's play area, and a small basketball court. To the east is Round Island, a very large and undeveloped wooded island that provides privacy for the club complex. On the west shore of the club is an area of well-trimmed willow trees, which protect the harbor, and provides a beautiful view from the club grounds, enhancing the view from the Detroit River. THE CLUBHOUSEThe club house dining room has a capacity for 170 people and a kitchen equipped for full dinner menu service as well as breakfast, short orders, and sandwiches. A separate cocktail lounge with a capacity for 50 is spacious and well staffed. An outside balcony overlooks Lake Erie and two inside balconies provide areas for games and a well-stocked library for quiet reading. There is a game room with a pool table and darts for recreation and enjoyment. THE MARINAThe marina facility offers 275 boat wells, ranging in length from 25 to 45 feet. All wells are equipped with electricity and city water. The Club maintains a pump out station, a gin pole for mast handling and equipment for moving and launching sail and powerboats up to 15 tons. Winter storage is available for approximately 500 boats. BOATING AND SOCIAL ACTIVIESOne of the primary purposes of Ford Yacht Club is to provide members with opportunity to actively participate in recreational boating and social activities. Organized activities are sponsored by the Club as well as by other clubs in the area on a cooperative basis. These include family sailboat racing and cruising, annual regatta, predicted log competitions, rendezvous trips, and gatherings at other clubs. Many different social activities are held at Ford Yacht Club throughout the year for our member's enjoyment. These events include many dances and various seasonal parties. The Flag Officers and other interest groups provide a wide variety of interesting theme parties, both in the clubhouse and on the grounds.
