Summer Employment Opportunities

The Grosse Ile Community Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for spring and summer employment. The Recreation Department seeks to employ energetic individuals with a variety of interests who would like to make this spring and summer more fun for Grosse Ile residents of all ages.

If you enjoy the out-of-doors, if you enjoy working with people (especially children), or if you are skilled at golf, swimming, or another recreational sport, then you are probably a good match for the community recreation department.

Spring and Summer Employment Opportunities 2006

Aquatics Coordinator
This employee plans, organizes, and coordinates a community aquatics program and facility for youth and adults. Experience in supervision, lifeguarding, swim instruction, and pool operation required. Must have current LGT, CPR, and first-aid certification. LGI and WSI preferred.

Head Lifeguard
Assists Aquatic Director and facility management team members in daily pool operations, and may be responsible for total facility operation. Will perform life guarding on a regular basis. Must have current LGT, CPR, and first-aid certification. LGI and WSI helpful.

Lifeguard
Responsible for patron safety and well being through active preventative guarding. Will participate in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions. Assists with facility upkeep including pre and post-season facility set up and daily tasks. Must have current LGT, CPR, and first aid. Previous aquatic experience is helpful. Must be 16 or older.

Pool Customer Service Attendant
Collection of pool admission fee; operation of electronic cash register, clean-up of equipment and facility, completion of financial reports, greeting public and providing a favorable first impression; rule enforcement.

Athletic Field Maintenance Worker
Preparation of athletic fields - use of field drags, string lines, field painters, hand tampers, rakes, distribution of field amendments (50 lb. Bags), and operation of utility vehicles; minor turf maintenance; and minor janitorial duties. 18 years of age preferred; valid Michigan driver's license.

Golf Course General Maintenance Worker
Ability to operate small-motorized equipment (e.g.. string trimmer, push mower); ability to use hand tools; prefer experience in golf, athletic field or lawn maintenance; ability to participate in maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, tree pruning, string trimming, raking, picking up trash, marking or dragging fields, etc.; ability to lift 50 pounds; valid Michigan driver's license, with good driving record.

Golf Course Ranger "Good-Will Ambassador
Oversees golf course play. Enforces golf course rules and regulations through constant supervision and monitoring of golf play throughout the course. Thorough knowledge of golf rules and etiquette necessary. Past experience with public and conflict resolution is necessary. First-aid and CPR certification required. Strong customer service skills.

Driving Range/Cart Fleet
Ability to work well with others, have a valid driver's license, and be able to operate golf carts and learn to operate ball-picking equipment. Knowledge of golf and course rules is essential. Position is intended to give all customers friendly and helpful service.

Recreation Leader-Facility Attendant
Works evenings and weekends as needed to represent Community Recreation Department and serve users of recreation facilities. Typical duties are opening and closing the Centennial Farm Activity Center, meet and greet the public, inspect room to insure proper set-up, take-down and closing as indicated on the rental or facility request. Monitor facility, including restrooms to ensure supplies are stocked and facility is kept up to standards.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Grosse Ile Community Recreation Department is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers. Volunteers are an integral part of the operation providing vital assistance in a variety positions. Our volunteers have fun, make new friends, work outdoors in a beautiful setting and enjoy learning new skills.


Volunteer Commitment

During the spring and summer (April through August), community recreation volunteers are asked to commit to 30 hours of service. Some volunteer positions may require a greater commitment.

Volunteer Benefits
After 30 hours of service, a volunteer is eligible to receive a single golf membership and five range tokens or a voucher worth $250.00 towards recreation programs, activities or classes (excluding amusement park tickets).

After 65 hours of services, a volunteer is eligible to receive an unlimited single golf membership ($475.00) and five range tokens or a voucher worth $500.00 towards recreation programs, activities or classes (excluding amusement park tickets).

Positions Available
· Golf Volunteer: Assist with driving range, pro shop, cart fleet and gardens.
· Special Events: Assist with community events such as IslandFest, Harvest Day the Easter Event, and Senior Citizen Programs.
· Summer Programs: Safety Town Volunteers, Outdoor Education Programs,
Pool Parties and Movie Night Chaperones.
· Meal Delivery Driver: Deliver hot, nutritional meals to the homebound elderly Monday through Friday.

Volunteer Qualifications
Volunteer position qualifications range from no previous experience, only a desire to support the Grosse Ile Community Recreation Department mission. Unless stated otherwise, volunteers must be at least 16 years of age unless volunteering as a team
with an adult. Volunteers are selected based on available positions, requirements of each position and successful completion of training.

Volunteer Training Requirements
New volunteers must attend a Volunteer Orientation Session. Additional training may be required for each volunteer position.
