Drainage Task Force

1999-2000 Annual Report

The Drainage Task Force (DTF) continues to monitor the drainage complaints, however, due to the low water levels in 1999 there was little activity.

A priority drainage problem involves the west end of Lake and Rucker Roads and the retention pond at the Airport. Two projects have been initiated as follows:

  • In the “Open Space” area east of Meridian and North of Rucker Road, to relieve flooding, a ditching project draining into the Grosse Ile Drain was completed in 1999.
  • A contract for a drainage project involving the S.E. corner of Meridian and Lake Roads, the Airport sewer system and the retention pond, was approved by the Township Board on January 10, 2000 with work expected to begin in the near future.
  • There are several other problems waiting solutions.

There are other drainage problems being reviewed by the Township Engineer for eventual recommendation to the Township Board. In addition, an important part of the overall storm drain management project is the Topographic Mapping of the island with devolopment showing drainage patterns and the potential for computerizing the information. To avoid duplication of efforts and expense the Township Engineer is coordinating this portion of the storm management projects with Wayne County.
