of 2000.

technicians. This upgrade will enable the emergency crews to administer
IV's to critical care patients.
Year in Review, 1999
The first and foremost event of the year was the appointment of a new
fire chief. Duncan Murdock, jr. was sworn in on May 20, 1999. He had been
at the helm since March 5, 1999, after Kenneth Fisher retired.
- The order of a new rescue/crash scene truck for the year 2000 was
completed.
- The jaws of life tools were totally upgraded to meet more stringent
requirements.
- The disaster plan for the township was completed and adopted.
- Bids were accepted for a new fire marshal vehicle to be purchased
in 2000.
- Cardiac defibrillator units are now in both ambulances.
- New fire alarm systems were installed in three local churches.
- The Knox Box security system was implemented and completed in 1999,
which covers 42 locations in occupancies over 10,000 sq. ft.
- A laptop computer was ordered to aid in water supply/hydrant/address
location. This computer can be utilized to determine the layout of schools,
churches and larger buildings on the island in the event of a fire.
- The development of a water/ice rescue team and equipment trailer
has been put in place.
- Fire Prevention Week will be Oct. 1 - 7, 2000. This has been a huge
success each year, as nearly 500 visitors attend the evening event.
Many fire exhibits, handouts and the Fire Safety Smoke House are made
available. The open house has proven to be very popular among residents,
as it is an evening out with the family, providing educational benefits
close to home.
