Department of Community Development

1999-2000 Annual Report

Mission Statement

The Department of Community Development is responsible for protecting the public health, safety and welfare of the Township regarding land use and construction in all new and existing structures.

1999 Accomplishments

On January 11, 1999, the Building Department became the Department of Community Development. The reorganization named Dale Reaume as Director, Richard Sligay as Building Official, and Lorinda Beneteau, as Zoning Specialist. Tony Gray and Lorrie Tyra joined the team in April as Ordinance Enforcement Officer and Building Permits Coordinator, respectively. In the month of July, Mitzi Forshee left her position of Part-time Permit Clerk to re-enter the full time work force. This position is currently vacant and is being considered as becoming a seasonal position during the busy months.

The department improved customer service by dividing job responsibilities which were reflective of knowledge and experience of each employee. This allowed better focus on the areas which demanded greater attention. The addition of the position of Code Enforcement Officer proved to be very beneficial. On an average, thirty-one cases have been handled per month. Although the issuance of fines has been minimal the program is clearly a success due to the high rate of compliance.
