1999-2000 Annual Report

The Grosse Ile Senior Housing Committee continues to work toward establishing a Senior Housing Apartment Complex on Grosse Ile. In addition to much committee work the members of the committee attended a workshop session of the Township Board, Planning Commission and our committee in July, 1999. There were also presentations by the developer to the Planning Commission and the Township Board.

The developer, Oakwood Companies, proposes to build, own and operate a 50 unit apartment complex on the property designated for Senior Housing located between Macomb Street and Grays Drive. The building proposed would be a two story, elevator equipped structure with space provided for a lobby, meeting rooms, exercise room, beauty parlor and an office and library.

As 1999 ended, negotiations were underway between the township and Oakwood Companies for the purchase of the property. We hope to have final site approval, and financing completed early in the year 2000, with construction to begin during the summer or early fall of 2000.
