Water's Edge Golf and Country Club

1999-2000 Annual Report

Water’s Edge Country Club is dedicated to improving the community by:

  • Providing quality leisure time activity for the family at an affordable cost.
  • Providing economic support through employment and use of services.
  • Creating a positive environmental impact through green space maintenance.

Located on approximately fifty-five acres at the intersection of Bellevue and West River Roads, this unique facility provides golfing, swimming, and boating.

Water’s Edge Country Club includes a regulation nine-hole golf course, a driving range and a putting green. The course is meticulously maintained for golfing enjoyment seven days a week. The pro shop opens at 7 a.m. to insure that members can arrange their desired tee times and make any necessary inquiries regarding club activities.

Water’s Edge employs a golf professional who provides a range of services for the golfing community. He gives golf lessons at all levels of play, supervises pro shop activities, and coordinates a Junior Golf program. The Water’s Edge management is especially pleased with the Junior Golf program. It has grown from 20 participants in 1995 to 160 participants in 1999.

The club offers the use of two swimming pools. The larger pool measures 30 X 75 feet, has five lanes, and a three to five foot depth range. The smaller or training pool measures 20 X 40 feet, and has a maximum depth of three feet. The pool has a spotless, pleasant environment where members and their guests can relax. Adjacent to the pool area is a sand volleyball court.

Swimming lessons are a popular pool feature at Water’s Edge. The Club offers two three-week sessions with eight skill levels. In 1999, 354 children participated in the swim lesson program. Instruction is under the supervision of a Michigan certified swim instructor. Interested adults may participate in a water exercise program. Swimming lessons are held on weekday mornings, leaving the afternoon and weekends for open swim.

Water’s Edge Marina provides summer dockage for fifty boats and winter storage for approximately eighty boats. The docks, piers, and work areas are carefully checked daily for any necessary repairs and maintenance. Launches, haul outs, and emergency services are provided by our marina lift operator. The marina occupies 800 feet of waterfront property. About 920 feet of waterfront property remain undeveloped for future marina expansion.

Owned and operated by the Township of Grosse Ile since 1974, Water’s Edge Country Club takes great pride in its “Enterprise Fund” status. The Club relies solely on fees for services. No tax dollars support Water’s Edge. In 1999, 981 families from Grosse Ile and neighboring communities enjoyed our facility. We are grateful for their support and for the opportunity to have a positive impact on the community.
