2000-2001 Annual Report

Mission Statement

The Department of Community Development is responsible for protecting the public health, safety and welfare of the Township regarding land use and construction in all new and existing structures.

2000 Accomplishments

With the division of job responsibility the department has continued to improve customer service. This division allowed for better focus on areas, which demanded greater attention. With the combined knowledge and experience of this staff they have continued to demonstrate a clear understanding of this communities needs and of Township policies. The position of Code Enforcment Officer continues to be greatly beneficial. On an average, twenty-five cases have been handled per month. Although the issuance of fines has been minimal the program continues to be a success due to the high rate of compliance. Despite the many headaches (or backaches) Phase I of the Sidewalk Replacement Program was a success. Our thanks go out to all the residents who complied. We ended the year on a good note given the challenges of moving our offices into a beautiful new working environment.

New home construction continues to decline 9% in 2000 to a total of 29 single-family homes. However, an increase in additions and remodeling continues to rise.

Permits Issued

The Department of Community Development issued permits for 29 new homes during the past year. Total building permits issued for the year were 345 with a construction value of nearly $17,000,000. Of this total nearly $7,000,000 were for new home construction. There were 93 plumbing permits issued, 243 mechanical permits issued and 234 electrical permits issued during the past year.

2000-2001 Goals and Objectives

During the upcoming budget year, we would like to accomplish the following:

To operate within our approved budget.
Continue to address the goals identified in the reorganization.
To take a more aggressive approach to code enforcement.
Amend flood plain regulations.
Continue to formalize department procedures.
Begin Phase II of the Sidewalk Replacement Program
