The Grosse Ile Senior Housing Committee continues to work with the Township Board and the developer, Oakwood Companies, to achieve the goal of a Senior Housing Apartment complex on Grosse Ile.
At the direction of the Township board the Township Supervisor and Township Clerk signed a development agreement with Oakwood Companies to build,own and operate a senior housing apartment complex on Grosse Ile. The township entered into a purchase agreement with Oakwood Companies for the property designated for senior housing.
The Township Board passed a resolution to allow the special land use for senior housing and approved the amenities proposal.
The proposed senior housing apartments will be a two story, 50 unit, elevator equipped building located between Grays Drive and Macomb Street. The building will be oriented toward the business district on Macomb Street by design and landscaping. Entrance to the complex will be from Macomb Street through a landscaped park.
The developer is working with the State of Michigan and the township to finalize plans with the objective of beginning construction during the year 2001.
