Open Space / Greenway Committee

The Open Space / Greenways Committee is a multiple faceted group of representatives from the Township Board, Township Community Development Department, Nature and Land Conservancy, Beautification Committee, Planning Commission and residents at large.

The mission of the committee is to provide a quality of life for the residents of Grosse Ile by maintaining the natural beauty and semi rural ambience of our community.

2001-2002 Fiscal Year Accomplishments

  • Worked with the Township Board to procure two acres of additional Open Space.
  • Obtained assessments of property being considered for procurement as Open Spaces / Greenways.
  • Prepared an informational pamphlet supporting the Millage Renewal Requests for Open Space / Greenways Program. The requests were subsequently approved.
  • Initiated an inventory of all vacant property on Grosse Ile.
  • Improved communications to the residents through articles in the Ile Camera.
  • Installed barriers at strategic locations on Open Spaces to prevent entry by vehicular traffic.
  • Arranged for removal of abandoned structures, vehicles, etc. on Open spaces.
  • Arranged for pruning and removal of dead trees along bike paths.

2002 – 2003 Fiscal Year Objectives

  • Continue to provide information and input to the Township Board regarding procurement of additional Open Space / Greenways properties.
  • Complete the inventory of all vacant property on Grosse Ile.
  • Complete and publish to all residents, an informational pamphlet highlighting the natural attributes of Open Space / Greenways properties.
