THE SUPERVISOR’S E UPDATE MARCH 24, 2005Kurt M. Kobiljak, Township SupervisorRecreation Millage Town Hall Meeting – April 5thA Town Hall Meeting has been set to discuss the May 3rd Recreation millages that will be presented to Island residents for their consideration. Among a potential list of others, Treasurer John Raithel, Recreation Superintendent Tim Rooney, and I will answer questions related to the recreation millages presented from Moderator, Terry Jacoby, Ile Camera Editor. This Town Hall Meeting will be held April 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the Merle Solomon Board Room. Those who have questions or comments regarding the proposed recreation millage (a .5 renewal millage and a .75 new recreation millage) should attend this informative meeting. It is the Township’s hope that this meeting will likely address many issues related to the respective recreation millage proposals, and also provide clarification to a great deal of misinformation that is circulating in the community. This is your chance to ask the tough questions and get informative and accurate answers. County Bridge Speed LimitWatch your speed on the County Bridge! Even though we have yet to see the formal speed designation made, Chief Bill Barron got word this Monday that the County was indeed going to change the speed on the County Bridge from a “recommended” 25 mph to a “posted” 25 mph. This change is likely going to occur this week. The County has additionally requested assistance from the Township, the City of Trenton, and its own Sheriff’s Department to monitor and, if necessary, ticket those who exceed the speed limit on the Bridge. Please pay attention to your speed on the County Bridge, you do not want to be the first recipient of a bridge ticket. Toll Bridge ClosureThe Toll Bridge closure has been rescheduled to begin Monday, April 4, 2005. Per posted signs, the proposed shut down will last three weeks. The Easter Bunny’s visit to the New Recreation Department SiteThe Easter Bunny visited the Recreation Department at its new location at the Water’s Edge site. Over 300 adults and children had the chance to visit and have their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny, take part in an Easter egg hunt on the golf course’s putting green and first hole fairway, make Easter crafts, ride ponies, and bounce around in a moon walk. Even though Easter came early this year and there was a little snow still on the ground, Tim Rooney and his staff put together another tremendous event. Recommended Recreation 2005 Golf and Pool RatesFollowing the Community Recreation Commission monthly meeting, they will propose and recommend the following golf and pool rates to the Township Board for final approval: Golf for 9 holes Pool Fees per Day Summer Marina Rates Senior AllianceBob Brown, Interim Executive Director of The Senior Alliance, recently contacted me regarding the present status of the Alliance. The Senior Alliance operates as the designated area agency on aging, and services the 34 charter communities in southern and western Wayne County. As a charter community, Grosse Ile has a responsibility for the existence of The Senior Alliance and its governance, and has a designated representative on the Alliance Board. Each year Grosse Ile contributes a local match contribution to the Alliance. The Township’s share, as proposed by The Senior Alliance this year, will be $1,744.00. Tennis Center Family NightLast Friday evening the Tennis Center hosted its first ever Family Night. Approximately 60 adults and their children had the chance to play tennis and take part in both clinics and drills. After playing tennis, enough pizza was eaten to fill the tennis hangar itself. We look forward to an Adult Couples mixer planned for April. Thomas the Train is Coming to MichiganThomas the Train, the wonderful big blue NO. #1 Sodor Train Engine, is coming to Michigan in April. Greenfield Village has weekend events which focus on Thomas the Train and all of his friends and freight trains. This is a great family event for your children or grandchildren and for those who like trains. Most importantly you can have your picture taken next to this real locomotive, take a train ride throughout the Village, and meet Sir Topham Hat. Rest assured that my son Stefan will want to go every weekend.
