THE SUPERVISOR’S E UPDATE DECEMBER 15, 2005Kurt M. Kobiljak, Township SupervisorGrosse Ile Municipal Airport UpdateAt the Monday Board of Trustees meeting, the Township Board passed three important ordinances relating to the Township Airport. Pursuant to a recommendation from John Raithel, Board Commission liaison, James Weaks, Airport Commission Chairperson, and Dale Reaume, Township Manager, in order to better respond to safety/regulation issues while financially protecting the longevity of the Airport, the Airport Commission has been reconfigured into two separate and distinct entities - The Airport Commerce Park Commission and The Airport Advisory Committee. The Airport Advisory Committee will be made up of five appointed members who will oversee the airport’s runways and taxiways and those related issues dealing with the safety of the airport systems. The Airport Commerce Park Commission will be comprised of seven appointed members who will oversee the “commerce” of the entire Airport campus. Since the Commerce Park significantly aides in the funding of the operations on the south side of Groh, and being heavily dependant on just three tenants in the Commerce Park, this new commission must investigate and generate additional revenue to help fund the entire airport campus. Even though those opposed to this plan generated false claims about the goals of the Airport Commerce Park Commission over the weekend, the Commission will only be seeking new occupants to its commerce park which are low impact and acceptable to Island residents. Additionally it will cooperatively work with the Community Recreation Commission to better enhance the soccer fields which are situated at the northern portion of the site. If you are interested in serving on one of these groups, please contact Carol at 676.4422, ext. 210 for a commission/committee application form. Applications need to be submitted by January 9, 2006. The Board at its regularly scheduled January 23rd Board meeting will in turn appoint members to both the Airport Commerce Park Commission and Airport Advisory Committee.
