THE SUPERVISOR’S E UPDATE JANUARY 26, 2006Kurt M. Kobiljak, Township SupervisorGrosse Ile Municipal Airport UpdateAt the Monday Board of Trustees meeting, the Township Board appointed commissioners and committee members to the newly formed Airport Commerce Park Commission and Airport Advisory Committee. The Airport Advisory Committee will oversee the airport’s runways and taxiways and those related issues dealing with the safety of the airport systems. The Airport Commerce Park Commission will oversee the “commerce” of the entire Airport campus. Since the Commerce Park significantly aides in the funding of the operations on the south side of Groh, and being heavily dependant on a small number of major tenants in the Commerce Park, this new commission will work on increasing the number of low impact tenants so as to generate additional revenue to help fund the entire airport campus. The creation of both the Commission and the Committee is a major step in the evolution of the oversight of the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport. It is with the advancement of this new oversight initiative that the Airport will be able to generate growth while at the same time become an even greater asset of the Island. The following are those residents who were appointed by the Township Board to their respective positions: Airport Commerce Park Commission Airport Advisory Committee Wayne County Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge UpdateTownship Manager Dale Reaume and myself visited with Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, his engineering staff, and Wayne County Commissioner Joe Palamara last week to attempt to move the reconstruction of the Wayne County Bridge forward as quickly as possible. Based upon discussions with the County, and assuming that the necessary engineering is completed and monies are apportioned by the State, the project will hopefully commence in December 2006. We felt the timing of this project was significant so that the project would be started and completed at a time which was the least intrusive to Island residents, businesses and boat traffic. We have been told that the bridge will be closed for a period between four to six months. The County hopes to have the project commence in December is predicated upon recognizing that with all the activity which occurs on the Island during the spring and summer months (school functions, weddings, boat and golf club functions, etc.) that a winter shut down rather than a summer shut down made more practical sense. It is understood by all, however, that any shut down will have an immediate impact on the entire Island and its residents. The Township will keep you informed as this project progresses. 2006 March Board of Review Meeting Dates and Hardship GuidelinesThe Board of Trustees adopted at its meeting on Monday, January 23 hardship guidelines for 2006 for assessment appeals based on income.
