HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS


Custom House Holiday Boutique
The Grosse Ile Historical Society’s Annual Holiday Boutique will be open for business Thanksgiving weekend at the Customs House, Parkway and East River Roads. The boutique will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from November 24 to December 23.
The book signing events scheduled will be as follows:

 Wendy Popko – “Has Anyone Seen Christmas?”
 Vanessa Giancamilli Birch – “Patches Finds a Home”
 Annessa Carlisle – “Bob-Lo - An Island in Troubled Waters”

This holiday store will certainly have that one of a kind item for the special person on your list or even for yourself.

 

The Nutcracker Suite - Dance Grosse Ile
Dance Grosse Ile will present “The Nutcracker Suite” at Trenton High School on Saturday, November 25 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 26 at 2:00 p.m. This year’s show includes the addition of a live orchestra. The Michigan Ballet Orchestra will play the score for the show. Tickets are available from Dance Grosse Ile at 362-0880, Grosse Ile Twp. Recreation Department at 675-2364, Ile Camera offices at 676-0515 or at the door on performance dates.

 

 

18th Annual Township Tree Lighting and IslandGlow
The 18th Annual Township Tree Lighting and Island Glow will be held on Friday, December 1, 2006.

 Entertainment on the East Macomb Stage (across from the hardware store) will feature Downriver Brass, Dance Grosse Ile, G.I.H.S. Marching Band and the Boar’s Head Children’s Choir starting at 6:30 p.m.

 Santa will arrive by Fire Truck at 7:40 p.m. at the entertainment stage (across from the hardware store).

 Travel with Santa west on Macomb Street to Perdino’s for the official lighting of the Holiday Tree at 8:00 p.m.

 The evening continues with shopping and holiday cheer at participating Macomb Street Businesses until 9:30 p.m.

 

Recreation Department Holiday Favorites
For the little folks, “Brunch With Santa” is set for Saturday, December 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Give Santa a BIG welcome

For the mature crowd, “Senior Holiday Luncheon” will be on Wednesday, December 6 at 12:30 p.m. A wonderful lunch and dessert will be catered by “Sharkey’s” as well as having live entertainment by Solitaire for your dancing and listening pleasure.

Pet Photos With Santa and Animal Shelter Open House
Nine years ago this month, T.A.I.L.S. was proud to open the doors to a new Township Animal Shelter on Centennial Farm. The continued support of our members and the community has enabled us to make many wonderful improvements to the original building as well as provide increasingly better care to our animal friends. Please join us as we celebrate the holiday season. For that extra special holiday photo, stop by the Grosse Ile Animal Shelter on Saturday and Sunday, December 2 and 3 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and your pet can have their picture taken with Santa!! For a $5 donation, you will receive a Polaroid picture of you and your pet with Santa Claus!! For the safety of all, please have dogs on a lease and cats and other small animals in a cage. After your photo, please visit our Christmas Shoppe and see the interesting selection of gifts for holiday giving. And of course, feel free to look over the wonderful selection of pets for adoption.

 

Metro Shores Ballet – “The Nutcracker”
The Metro Shores Ballet will present “The Nutcracker” at the GIHS Auditorium on Saturday, December 2 at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 3 at 2:00 p.m. Reserved seat tickets are available at Grosse Ile Academy of Dance.

 

Seaway Chorale and Orchestra
“A Swingin’ Christmas” will be presented by the Seaway Chorale and Orchestra at Flat Rock Community High School on Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for adults over 60 and $9 for students. The Glory of Christmas
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Trenton is presenting “The Glory of Christmas” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday December 8, 9 and 10. Tickets are complimentary but must be ordered in advance of the concert. Tickets may be ordered by calling the Music Line 734.676.2942 or by email at www.SPLConline.com.

Boar’s Head Festival
The Boar’s Head Festival will be presented at Sacred Heart Church on December 14, 15, 16, and 17th. Tickets must be purchased in advance by sending your order in to “The Grosse Ile Boar’s Head Ticket Order, P.O. Box 316, Grosse Ile, MI 48138. Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children. A self-addressed stamped envelope must accompany the order. For more information, go to the website www.boarsheadgi.com.

Outside the Lines Gallery
Outside the Lines Gallery wishes to announce a special holiday Art Glass sale from November 27 through December 1. Also, Starting December 1, the shop will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

As a reminder!!!
Grosse Ile Township Offices will be closed in honor of the Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. The offices will re-open on Monday, November 27 at 8:00 a.m. The Treasurer’s Office Drop Box will be available for water and tax bill payments; checks only, no cash please!!
