Wayne County Bridge Construction Update
Today I had the opportunity of inspecting the Free Bridge and providing the pictures which are attached. As the pictures show the contractor is putting the finished railings on the bridge. Additionally the light poles will be reinstalled and both entranceways to the bridge in Trenton and Grosse Ile are being cleared (i.e. debris, materials, etc.) and hauled away.
Per my conversation with County Officials, the bridge will re-open next Friday, December 21 at Noon.
The following project items are complete:
· Structural steel replacement and repair is complete.
· 100% of the deck has been delivered and is welded in place.
· 100% of the sidewalk bracing has been installed.
· 99% of additional, unforeseen work is completed.
· A majority of all the sidewalk is installed.
· The catwalk is complete.
· East and West concrete approaches are complete.
· Rail installation is 50% complete and all posts are in place.
· 100% of the swing span decking is welded in place.
· 100% of the concrete fill for deck grating on the swing span is complete.
· Curb placement and guardrail installation for swing span is 50% complete.
· Reinstallation of roadway lighting is 30% complete and installation of new approach guardrails has begun.
· Contractor will work through the weekend (weather permitting).
· Project is approximately 2% over cost, Wayne County is picking up the tab for the overage.
· Wayne County staff has completed the cleanup of the Grosse Ile Parkway outside of the construction site limits.
· Roadway and bridge striping is scheduled for early next week.
