THE SUPERVISOR’S E UPDATE April 18, 2007Kurt M. Kobiljak, Grosse Ile Township Supervisor An announcement made by DaimlerChrysler today indicated that a new plant would be built in Trenton next to the existing Trenton Engine Plant facility. According to an article in today’s News Herald, Mayor Gerry Brown is quoted as saying that Van Horn Road will no longer have to be closed to accommodate the project. In addition, per my discussions with Wayne County representatives today to have verbally confirmed that Van Road will not be closed. This is great news for Island residents and the Downriver Community. For further information, click on any of the following links: Detroit News Detroit Free Press The News Herald Wayne County Free Bridge Closure – The Project Will Commence Within The Next Two Weeks This morning I had the opportunity of attending with Township Manager Dale Reaume, Public Services Director Barry Sedlock, Township Engineer Souheil Sabak, Public Services Commission Chair Ted Van Os, and Lt. Porcarelli attended a pre-construction meeting at the Wayne County Construction Maintenance Yard located in Wayne, Michigan about the upcoming closure of the Wayne County Parkway Bridge. The low bidder, Walter Toebe Construction Company out of Wixom, Michigan, was introduced. Bid award is pending finalization of contract documents. It is anticipated that construction could commence as soon as the first week in May. Per Township request and contract documents, upon notification of the specific start date and closure of the bridge, confirmation of this date will be forwarded through the E Update, GITV, AM 1700 Grosse Ile Community Information Radio, and the Grosse Ile website (www.grosseile.com). In addition, Wayne County and the contractor will be coordinating several traffic signs notifying residents of the specific start date. During the construction project, the West River Road ramp and the entrance to the Elizabeth Park Marina are required to be accessible. As reported in the past, the bridge closure could last through December 2007. Wayne County Engineers will be overseeing this project. DTE Energy Project Update The date for the DTE Energy Shut Down of the entire Island is scheduled for Sunday, April 29, 2007 from 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Please recognize this is a total shut down of all power – there will be no exceptions. A shut down rain date of Sunday, May 6, 2007 is scheduled if weather conditions prohibit the work from being completed on Sunday, April 29, 2007. The times on the rain day will be the same as on April 29, 2007 (1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.). Police Chief Bill Barron and Fire Chief Duncan Murdock will have staff and emergency personnel on duty that night for the electrical shut down and are prepared to assist Island residents during the event. My office will continue to keep residents updated on this important event. In addition, the partial closure of Ferry Road between West River Road and Chicory Road is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 18, 2007. The closure is part of the DTE Energy Trenton Channel electrical cable repair project.
