THE SUPERVISOR’S E UPDATE April 4, 2008

Kurt M. Kobiljak, Township Supervisor

Congratulations D.A.R.E Graduates!

This last Monday I and my oldest Daughter Katie had the opportunity of speaking at the Parke Lane Elementary School D.A.R.E graduation.  I will tell you that I was very much impressed.  The DARE program provides seventeen major steps of curriculum which addresses things such as effects of Mind Alternating Drugs, Considering Consequences, Changing Beliefs about Drug Use, Building Self Esteem, Combating Media Influence on Drug Use and Violence, Resisting Gang and Group Violence and Learning Resistance Techniques.  Detective Kenneth Pelland, as the Township's Community Police Officer, has put together an incredible program which benefits every child who participates.  The Parents which were in attendance also had the opportunity of seeing the program unfold, hearing student essays, viewing a student slide presentation and discussions focused on role models, advertising and friendship.   The Meridian School Dare graduation was held March 10th.

Some acknowledgments are in order for the following student essay winners:

Parke Lane School: Nicole Olenchak, MacKenzie Champnella, Isabella deCardensas

Meridian School: Makenzie Marinkovich, Andrew McAughey

Congratulations to the DARE graduates – as I indicated Monday night they are  the future of our community and will most assuredly have impact on the younger children which are in our school district. Additionally if you happen to run across Detective Pelland – acknowledge his efforts for he is surely providing tools to our young students for their future years.
