The Grosse Ile Recreation Department and the Cable Department have developed
a web-based community calendar. It can be viewed at www.grosseilecom and
is located on the right hand column at the top of the page. Community
and township events are displayed on this user-friendly medium. Take the
time to sit down and play with the calendar as it has many functions that
allow all to stay updated with the entire Township. If you have any event
or activity to promote, contact the cable department at TedF@grosseile.com
with your information.

County Bridge Speed Limit
Watch your speed on the County Bridge! Even though we have yet to see
the formal speed designation made, Chief Bill Barron got word this Monday
that the County was indeed going to change the speed on the County Bridge
from a "recommended" 25 mph to a "posted" 25 mph. This change is likely
going to occur this week. The County has additionally requested assistance
from the Township, the City of Trenton, and its own Sheriff's Department
to monitor and, if necessary, ticket those who exceed the speed limit
on the Bridge. Please pay attention to your speed on the County Bridge,
you do not want to be the first recipient of a bridge ticket.
Civil Infraction Fee Increase for Open Space Littering
Upon recommendation from the Greenways Open Space Committee, the Township
Board at its January 24th meeting approved an increase from the existing
fine for littering from $50 to $500. This action was taken to abate the
constant and systematic dumping of litter and trash in and throughout
the Townships Open Space properties. Since Open Space properties
have been purchased through efforts of the taxpayers of Grosse Ile, part
of the Greenways committee charge is to maintain and protect those properties.
As a result, the committee recognized that the integrity of open space
properties was being directly affected by the intentional dumping of trash
and foreign materials on open space. They noted that the increase in penalty
was just the first step. The next step will take the form of observation
and enforcement
